Windows 98 LOCkUP

    hi everyone

    im at work and just started up all the computers and one running windows 98 SE wont get past the very start blue loading screen.

    The little bar is moveing down the bottom so its loading, just not getting anywhere.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    ok it finally loaded but took about 40 minutes, which isnt right so please give me some ideas how to fix it.

    Could be anything...
    Try to clean out the registry by running Regclean, available from Microsoft downloads

    Some other things to look at are:
    % of resources being used when pc is up

    # of programs being started.Try starting with systray and explorer only.

    How much free space do you have on your harddrive.
    When was the last time you ran scandisk/defrag.(when you run these,do them in Safe Mode)

    Did this just start happening and if so what has been added to this pc recently.

    Do you have an anti-virus program running that checks all files at startup.This could cause a slowdown.
    Hope some of this helps.

    Use the spyware link next to my name to get Adadware 5.62 and install it. Clean what it finds. You can also use the msconfig link to help with the startup items mentioned.
