My compaq presario lost its sleep mode on the keyboard and on the shut down menu the standby mode is no longer an option. Any way to regeneate it? I was cleaning up my desktop and seems it disappeared after that. Did I delete something I needed?

You should reach the power options:
Start> Settings> Control Panel> Power Management> Advanced tab and select from the drop downs what you want your computer to do when you press the Power Button and when you press the Sleep Button. I don't have Windows 98, but I checked one of my computers with Windows 98SE and yours should be simular. On mine there was a option on the Advanced tab to place an icon on the taskbar.

I checked the power management icon and clicked advance. All I show is a box that says "show power meter on task bar". The rest of the box is blank. Seems any options have disappeared. I need to go to the source of the software to correct it and don't know how. I have all the other shut down features in the shut down box, but no standby. It is probably an easy fix, but I don't know where to start. Any other ideas? Thanks.
