I was going thru Windows 98 (first edition) applications section, and accidently hit the MS Dos prompt. It kicked me out into MS Dos, and prompted me to type exit to return to Windows 98 (after the C//:). Windows 98 then flashes on, but before the icons appear, it kicks me back into Dos, and prompts me to type exit again. I reboot the computer (Gateway), and it still kicks me into DOS rather than Windows. What can I do to correct this?

When the PC goes to MS -DOS i would try this. At the prompt type scanreg/restore and you will see probably four older copies of the registry. If this problem just cropped up in the last four or five days select a copy when you know the PC was working ok to restore it.

I'm not exactly sure what happened the first time.

The MSDOS prompt usually only opens either a full screen or DOS window. You are still in Windows while this is running.

Did you infact to a Start / Shutdown and select "Reboot into MS-DOS mode"?
