I have a Compaq Desktop which kept freezing up today. I did the ctrl/alt/delete to start it back up, then I just shut the computer off.
When I rebooted everything lights up and it sounds like the hard drive attempts to spin and the fan works but the monitor stayed black. The monitor works on other computers. Any ideas?

Chech to see if you have onboard video . if you do then remove the card and retry booting, but go to safemode and delete the video card from device manager.

maybe the card slipped out of its slot some. If your getting a yellow light instead of green on the monitor power light that may be whats happened.

Another way to check if the computer is actually booting but just not showing on the monitor: If you have speakers, listen for the startup music. Also, watch the NUMLOCK light on the keyboard and see if it cycles on, off and back on and remains on. Then press the NUMLOCK key and see if the light toggles off and on again.
