I had to do a reformat since my son downloaded a virus and the virus checked did not catch it. Now the windows critical update for 98 SE downloads but will not install the Security Update of November 20, 2001. Nobody around here has a clue what to do. And the Update reminder is a pain. HELP:confused:

Hiya

Not having Win98 on this PC, can you tell us what the security patch is for?

Can you download any of the others? Also, for removing the Notification, go to Run and type MSCONFIG. Startup tab and uncheck CrticalUpdate.

Regards

Today I went back and investigated further on the problem. All the other updates had worked OK. Just that one failed and it was an update for 6.4 and higher versions. My 98 SE install was for an older version and for some reason the update could not handle the older version. I installed a newer version and then the update went in with no problem. Maybe I will take the time to look next time but then this was the first time I had trouble with the updates. Thanks for the help and thats one thing you get on this forum.

But what's your Media Players version?
Open WMP, click Help/info , and tell us what it says there.

Greetz,
