Asking a favour................ :)

Could some of you members who use Windows Defender on Windows 10 and or Windows 8 do a manual scan with Windows Defender updated to the latest definitions -

Quick Scan
Full Scan
Off Line Scan

Does your Windows Defender only do a limited number of files before finishing scan such as 14 or 21 files instead of thousands.

Thanks. It seams Microsoft has broken Windows Defender

My results:

Quick scan - 14 files/items
Complete scan - 14 files/items
Off line scan- 21 files/items

Each scan only took a few seconds before saying scan complete

I haven't tried Custom Scan yet.

Tested out on my Window 8.1 laptop.
First Quick scan before updating, ran as normal, many 1,000's of items/files
After update 32 items/files

I have the same results as Cookiegal.
Doing a full Custom and it is up in the 1,000's already

Just received another update. This time Quick scan seems to be working but when i clicked Scan the file scan count was at over 1000 in the blink of an eye then seemed to scan at normal speed. Also "estimated time remaining" counter is not working properly.

Over 19000 files in 3mins. 33secs.

More info to follow.

Jack,

The link you posted goes to the Windows 8 forum but not to your thread specifically so here's a link to the one I guess you're referring to:

https://forums.techguy.org/threads/strange-toshiba-laptop-story.1233157/

If that's the correct one then I don't see any relation to this issue here.

Also, links had already been posted to the Microsoft Answers forum addressing the issue with Windows Defender.
