I have hundreds of files in my \Windows\faultlog.txt of 500 Kb appx,
dating back to early 2002. Can I get rid of some, or is there somewhere I can limit the size? There is noting in the file's Properties. Tks.

Text files have no effect in Windows. You can search the computer for all Text files and delete them all. All have the .txt extension.

Go to Start->Find->Files and Folders, on Find What type .txt, search in C: and sub-directories, and click on Find Now. Some programs come with Readme.txt files, however, there is no user usable information therein.

Tks for response. I was wondering why Windows kept a log for every fault in Windows? Its in the c:\windows\faullog.txt, below is a recent exemple:

IEXPLORE caused an invalid page fault in
module YCOMP5_3_18_0.DLL at 018f:6801da3a.

This log file is made by Windows Me dynamically as errors may occur within the operating system and can be used to troubleshoot existing issues that the customer may have already experienced. This assists the technician in troubleshooting existing issues with the computer and reference the Faultlog.txt file for errors that may have occurred. The Faultlog.txt file can be accessed from Msinfo32 and may only show under the Tools option if an error has occurred. Information in the faultlog.txt includes the application that may have caused the error and the specific file name the error is related to.

Here are the types of errors that are logged in the faultlog.txt:

General Protection Fault
Invalid Page Fault
Invalid Instruction

Tks for response. You cleared up the "why", so i've decided to clean the 2002-2004 entries releasing 200 KB. :)
