    Hi there.
I have the following most frustrating problem with my windows ME system:
Shortly after start-up my windows explorer crashes, my task bar freezes, and I have to use the task
manager to restart it. It then crashes again a few minutes later.
My internet explorer opens very slowly and then crashes quite quickly - I've had to switch to Netscape.
Similarly browsing my hard-disk causes a crash. Netscape isn't that reliable either - but that might not be
    related.
I had gator-ware and recently uninstalled it - but I wonder if it might have damaged my system causing these
    problems..
I've run a check for bots/modifications using spybot - and effected all of the changes it recommended
but I still have the same problems.
Any suggestions would be most helpful
    Thanks
    Claus

Thanks for that. I've got the log.
Sorry, but before I post it: maybe this is paranoid but - could such a log be used by people trying to find out information about my connection/computer? Or is such information easy to find out anyway? Sorry - these problems have made me edgy.

The log didn't show anything that looked unusual to my untrained eye (i.e. no gators).
I've just run ad-aware which picked up and corrected more modifications after my spybot run and my explorer has been stable for 15 minutes.

    Thanks again
    troubled
    Claus

No, nothing in the Hijack Log can be used against you.

With Adaware and Spybot make sure you are downloading all the updates. Also a virus scan should be done. Here's a free one: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/

Thanks for this: I think I still have the same problem. I have an up-to date McAfee checker which has turned up nothing - but I'll run this one too.
    Cheers

Those can be disabled from startup using HijackThis or Msconfig - it'll free up some resources.

I'm not sure about the R1 and 017 entries.

This could be a Hardware problem or a case when Windows has been corrupt. You could try doing a System Restore to a few days before the problem started.
