Can anyone help/comment on this problem?

I have Windows XP Pro, SP3. For the last few months, when I run Dragon
NaturallySpeaking, I often get the following message:"Windows Explorer has
encountered an error and needs to close. The event viewer log says:
Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.5512, faulting module
    comctl32.dll, version 6.0.2900.5512, fault address 0x00076215.

This is followed by another error message saying Dr. Watson needs to close and
    the event viewer log says:
Faulting application drwtsn32.exe, version 5.1.2600.0, faulting module
    dbghelp.dll, version 5.1.2600.5512, fault address 0x0001295d

After this my system freezes and I have to reboot. Things I have already done:

    1. Uninstalled and reinstalled Dragon NaturallySpeaking

    2. Done a repair/reinstall of Windows XP.

I did some looking around online, and one suggestion was to check my system and
see what versions of comctl32.dll I could find. I have a list of them below.
It turns out that the version that is in C:\WINDOWS\system32 is an old
version: 5.82.2900.5512 and as you can see above, the version that is crashing
is 6.0.2900.5512. The latest version is the 1.01 MB version dated 4/13/2008
which is the last item in the list below.

The attached Dr. Watson log shows that NaturallySpeaking9 is using the
comctl32.dll in C:\WINDOWS\system32 and that Windows is using the one in
    C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.2600.5512_x-ww_35d4ce83.

I found this Microsoft hotfix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/884883, but I am
a bit nervous about running it. Could it mess things up more?

    Thanks!

    Davka

Daft question maybe, but could save you a bucket load of time.......Have you tried to run Firefox 3. In every instance I have loaded Firefox - it has been much more stable and much less prone to falling over than IE 6 and 7....

I have been crashing multiple times per hour. I found that the problem was a bad MS fix, KB942615.

MS has a fix available as KB946627 at

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946627/

I applied the fix and so far all is good.

    Thanks for the ideas!
I have been running Firefox 3.0.1. The MS fix doesn't look applicable because I have IE7, not IE6, and am running on SP3.
The only thing that has been constant in all the crashes is that I am running Dragon Naturally Speaking when the system crashes.
I hear there will be a new version out this month, so maybe the upgrade will solve the problem.
