    Good morning everyone,

I came across this forum while searching for help with a computer issue. I'm hoping you can help me!

Our sales director has a Dell Latitude E4300 laptop with Win XP Pro (I did all the updates before this problem occurred). It's brand new and he decided to use the program PC Locator to move everything from his old laptop to his new laptop. He says he did that, it said it did it successfully, but when he restarted the program right after using the program, the computer won't finish loading Windows Explorer.

It will get to the Welcome screen and you can choose your user, but after that, it will show the desktop background, but no icons or taskbar and gives the error that Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.

    Error messages:

Can anyone help me figure out what is going on? Could he have transferred a virus or anything from his old laptop? He was prone to downloading everything under the sun, although he did have Vipre anti-virus on there and I installed Kapersky Anti-Virus on his new laptop BEFORE he copied everything over but it was FULL of junk.

I ran a standard diagnostic test as well and it came up with the following errors:

    Error Code 5300:eek:D23
Msg: VIDEO - No BIOS support for SMI interface function.

I have no idea where to go from here. Anyone have suggestions? (I'm a intermediate computer user, but haven't really run into problems like this before).

    Kathleen

Came across the same problem. It is a virus problem and I had to reformat to fix it. Usually it is a virus associated with a crack .exe file.
