at our business we are trying to eliminate the fax machine. what i have done is connected the landline phone to our modem. My next step is to go to my start menu and select windows fax and scan to get that set up. My only problem is windows fax and scan is not there. I feel like i have literally tried everything and still no hope. i have went to my control panel also to see if it was eliminated from my start screen and it is not in there either. I have called anyone i can think of and have gotten no where.
Windows Vista does not come with Windows Fax and Scan installed. Here is some information from the Microsoft TechNet web site on how to install and use Windows Fax and Scan:
EDIT: Just realized that information is for sending faxes through a networked Windows Server. I found some information from HP that describes a procedure for using the fax modem in your computer:
Yes, i have tried both of those. the only thing is they both require me to have the windows fax and scan, which i do not have. not even in programs and features on control panel. it does not show up anywhere. that is where i am stuck
I believe you will need to install a third party fax program in that case. I have not found any free ones that work with Vista but found one commercial program that claims to work with Windows Vista.
You're welcome. Maybe somebody else here will suggest a free or lower cost solution.
