I'm trying to install xp on a partition and I'm having trouble. I boot it to the xp disc and proceed to copy files onto the partition. Setup automatically reboots and goes right back to the original setup screen instead of continuing with the install. Please help

please note that I am not an expert.. .....but I just reinstalled sons computer couple of days ago. after machine rebooted and went back to set up screen I exited set up windows, the comp then proceeded to boot normally and continued with the install. Everything worked well. My only error was i forgot to load my drivers after install was finished, but have done that now. The comp works perfect.

One thing that would be helpful is some system specs and what is one the drives operating system wise. Also what OS are you trying to install Home or Pro?

What I've had to do before when this happens, is after the first restart go to bios a set the hard drive back to first boot.
Then it would boot to the hard drive and finish installing XP, rather than the continuous boot from cd run setup loop that you're in now.
As least this has worked for me before.

can't find a driver for it. would it work if I just connected the hard drive via ide? and if so there is two plugs (one for optical, one for hdd) they can be connected simutaneously, right?
