August 2017. I have a client using Live Mail under Win7. She sends her store newsletter to 850 opt-in customers. In the past months, there have been many complaints about coupons and news not received. Resends are only partially successful. Our ISP said "no more than 50 recipients" - so the list is now split into 18 groups of 49 max. The problem has gotten worse.

Today, I figured this out:

Windows Live Mail still has a bug in the group facility. (There have been some posts about this, including https://forums.techguy.org/threads/...s-in-windows-live-mail-and-windows-7.1076362/ )
- The "category" (group) list name will have the correct number of members next to it, and all the members will show in the displayed list. However, it sometimes happens that not all the members will receive an email. If you click the "+" plus sign next to the group name in the To, CC, or BCC of a message, it will show the actual list it is planning to send to. If that's undersized, check the group by this method:
- In Contacts, left click on the group you want to check so that the list of group members is displayed. Then right click on it and choose Edit. If names are missing from the box at the bottom, it needs repair. Adding the names and clicking Save won't actually save. Here's how to really repair the list:
- In Contacts, left click on the group you want to repair so that the list of group members is displayed. Then right click on it and choose Create a new category. Type in a *new* category name, and add *each* name that should be there back in from the vertical entire list of all contacts. You can refer to the helpfully alphabetized members list, which should be visible to the left. You want all the members to show in the box at the bottom. Save when complete.

Oh, yes, if you copy and paste to a text document from the list of names in the box at the bottom of the category edit, or having clicked the "+" in a recipient field, you will receive the contact names AND email addresses. This can be helpful when setting up groups in (heh) another email program.

I hope this helps someone - I could not find this info, even in Microsoft's forums. KGHN

Followup: Today I noticed some open group edit windows "stacked" minimized in the activity bar at the Live Mail position. I restored and closed them. I also closed and re-opened Live Mail. Several of the groups with problems then returned to correctly providing a full list in the edit window box, and also correctly providing a full list when used as a recipient, though they were not the ones that had been open for editing.
- Also, adding a single name to a list and Saving worked once, then adding several and Saving didn't work a couple of times.
- I suspect it is prudent to only edit one group at a time, and to make sure all group edit windows are closed before using a group as an email recipient.
- I advised my client to routinely use the "+" plus to expand a list when using it as a recipient (To/CC/BCC), to check that it looks like it has all its members.
