This error first appeared after another error caused me to reboot (activex disabled itself (still unresolved)) & when I rebooted WLM had lost my sign in details. When I tried to fill them in WLM took 3-5 seconds to show up each letter & once I had it all in it came up with the 800401f3 error.

I have tried a few things to resolve the issue but have hit brick walls in the process.

1) Remove & Reinstall WLM - problem persists

2) Reinstall MSXML - problem persists (have MSXML3 Sp7, MSXML 4.0 & MSXML Parser 6.0)

3) Run Messenger Error Fixer and got the following Log:

Attempting to fix error 800401f3...

RegDll Dssenh.dll... Success!
RegDll Gpkcsp.dll... Failed!
RegDll Slbcsp.dll... Failed!
RegDll Sccbase.dll... Failed!
RegDll Softpub.dll... Success!
RegDll Wintrust.dll... Success!
RegDll Initpki.dll (Note: This DLL could take a while, don't panic if the application freezes.)... Success!
RegDll Rsaenh.dll... Success!
RegDll Mssip32.dll... Success!
RegDll Cryptdlg.dll... Success!
RegDll Msxml3.dll... Failed!

Finished! Error 800401f3 should now be fixed.
4) Tried manually registering those dlls with the following commands:

regsvr32 Dssenh.dll /s
regsvr32 Gpkcsp.dll /s
regsvr32 Slbcsp.dll /s
regsvr32 Sccbase.dll /s
regsvr32 Softpub.dll /s
regsvr32 Wintrust.dll /s
regsvr32 Initpki.dll /s
regsvr32 Rsaenh.dll /s
regsvr32 Mssip32.dll /s
regsvr32 Cryptdlg.dll /s
regsvr32 Msxml3.dll /s

After all that failed I thought of repairing/reinstalling XP but the only option I have there is to delete my Windows and start again, which is not an option i'm afraid.

Anyone have any ideas as to how to resolve this issue as I am fresh out of them right now.

Thanks in advance,

Konrad.

No, I never did get it solved so I just migrated to Vista instead. You could try MS Support (as I did) and below is what they will most likely send you.

Hello Anthony,

Thank you for contacting MSN Messenger Technical Support. My name is Dave, and I will be happy to help you with this issue. Before anything else please accept my apologies if it took a while before we could reply to your e-mail and for any inconvenience that you may have experienced because of this issue. I know that this situation can be very frustrating not to mention disappointing on your part. With this in mind I would like to assure you that I will do my best to try to resolve the problem that you are experiencing.

According to your email, after the computer rebooted Windows Live Messenger did not show your sign in details.
I understand when you type your credentials (email address and password) there is a delay and, the sign in process fails with the error code 800401f3.

Below, I have included the steps to try to resolve this issue, but before you do it, please be advised that we specialize in supporting the MSN Messenger product version 7.5 and below. Therefore, if you encounter any additional problems after having gone through the steps, I would suggest that you contact Windows Live Messenger technical support at:
http://support.live.com

The following reasons may be causing your issue:
- The MSXML library files are not registered.
- The MSXML library files are inaccessible.

To help resolve this issue, please follow these steps in the order they appear:

1. Reregister the Msxml3.dll file:
a. Click "Start," click "Run," type the following command, and then click "OK:"
Regsvr32 %windir%\system32\msxml3.dll
b. If you can locate the file and the file is available, you receive the following message:
"DllRegisterServer succeeded in C:\Windows\System32\msxml3.dll is succeeded."
If this step is not successful, and you receive the error message that states that file cannot be found go to step

2. If you receive any other error message, write back to us so that we can follow up with other troubleshooting steps.
If this step succeeds, go to step 3.

2. Reinstall MSXML3:
a. Visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...91-052b-42ff-9674-f752bdca9582&displaylang=en
b. Click the "msxml3.msi" link near the bottom of the page, and then follow the wizard to complete the installation.

3. Restart the computer, and then sign in to Messenger again.

Anthony, is this issue now resolved? If not, collecting additional information will help us assist you better. Please respond to the best of your ability:

- After following all the steps provided, are you still encountering the same error code and message or a different one?

- If it is different, what is the exact sign-in error message and error code that you receive in the sign-in window?

Also, if you can think of any additional details that you think will help us resolve your issue, please include them.

This happened to me after I did a defrag on all my drives logged in on the Administrator account, I only run as a limited user in XP. I can log in to Live Messenger fine as Administrator, but when I log into my limited account it does this exact problem with me no matter what ID I try with Live Messenger.

I have four users(accounts) on my PC. We have had Live Messenger installed for about 3 months. Initially it worked fine, but a month or so ago, one user was not able to start the app, then two users and then three - the fourth is still able to use it with no problems. When logging in we get the "800401f3" error.

I have tried all of the "fixes" from various forums, including downloading utilities that "guarantee" to fix the problem. When I try to register msxml3.dll I get the "80004005" return code/error.

Anybody have ant further ideas most welcome,

Regards,

This problem has recurred. I tried removing/reinstlling Live, however, I get a Not Installed message for Messenger, Sign-in Assistant and Toolbar. Not sure where to go from here.

I've already tried replacing that msxml3.dll with the program, and it still doesn't work

It's also affected Civilization 4 for me, but after I unreg the .dll and use this .reg file I found it works...

But however it still doesn't help my WL Messenger.

Anyone have anything?
