First we need to show hidden files and folders

    1. Open any folder window.
    2. Click Tools > Folder Options > View Tab
    3. Scroll until you find "Hidden Files and Folders" > Click the "Show Hidden Files and Folders" radio button.
    4. Click Apply > Then OK
    5. Exit out of the folder.

    Delete Application Data

    1. Close Windows Live Messenger (or MSN) and its processes.
    2. Uninstall Windows Live Messenger (or MSN)
    3. Restart your computer.
    4. Click Start > Run > Type:

    C:\Documents and Settings\<YOUR USERNAME>\Application Data

Change <YOUR USERNAME> to the username you use to login with.

    5. Find the folder "Windows Live Messenger (or MSN Messenger)"
    6. Delete it
    7. Reinstall Windows Live Messenger (or MSN)

    Hide hidden files and folders

    1. Open any folder window.
    2. Click Tools > Folder Options > View Tab
    3. Scroll until you find "Hidden Files and Folders" > Click the "Do Not Show Hidden Files and Folders" radio button.
    4. Click Apply > Then OK
    5. Exit out of the folder.

    ----
    Restart your Computer

Hang on my instructions do work :) Instead of typing "C:\Documents and Settings\<YOUR USERNAME>\Application Data" type C:\Documents and Settings only and then double click your username, then inside that folder dbl click Application Data then proceed to deleting the file. You must uninstall Windows LM first!

And when it says you are not connected to the net messenger service, that means nothing. It's Microsoft's language for the better term "Not Signed in" :)

Uninstall it again (sorry but you need to)

Open up system restore, turn off system restore, click OK, turn it on again, restart your comp, reinstall.
