My laptop occasionally restarts if it gets too hot. It just did that a
while ago but when it logged back on it was like I had just bought the
laptop as it had the old desktop picture, all the stuff from the
desktop was gone, etc.

All my stuff was still on the PC but it was in my folder in My
Documents. It had created a TEMP folder in My Documents for this
logon. I changed the settings back to normal and carried on as if
nothing had happened. When I restarted the PC however, it was back to
square one - it was like a fresh install again. I'm still logging on
with my old logon/pass.

I don't quite know what's going on. Can anyone help me out? System
restore isn't an option as I disabled it a while ago. Any advice
would be good otherwise I will end up formatting.

Thanks.

You can try creating a new profile and then restarting to see if it stays. If it does then copy your files over to the new profile. I have seen a profile become corrupt but not after every boot. If it still goes back to square one I would format.

Thanks!! That's done the job. I'll just move everything from my other username now. You saved me a long format, I appreciate it. (y)
