My computer is running Windows Vista Home Premium which includes Windows Mail. Since the program is already on the computer and listed on the compatible client list with setup instructions on the Gmail website, I followed the instructions for setup with one minor problem.

Is there a way to keep the program from downloading whole messages instead of just the headers? I've let it download several of the imap folders from the account over the last couple of days, off and on, and it's still not finished. I suppose downloading all the messages enables you to sort, view, and edit your e-mails even when your offline. I don't have that problem since I'm permanently connected to the internet so I don't need to download whole messages. All I have to do is click on a message and it loads in a minute at the most depending on message size etc. I don't need to have a fairly small hard drive loaded down with unneeded data.

If there's no way to stop the program from downloading whole messages, any recommendations for an alternate third party client that can be set to download only message headers?

I already have Thunderbird on another computer and was looking to try something different.

    Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the links dvk01! I knew there must be some setting I was missing. I knew Imap was enabled in my gmail account so that only left the options available in Windows Mail by right clicking each folder in the imap folder list. Everything should work as I want it now. Thanks so much!
