    Hi,

Does opening up the volume properties and checking off mute, turn off the noise?
Do you use a docking station? If so, then you might have to mute any docking-station related volume controls, (ie-dock line-in, doc mic., etc.).
Only time I've run into this problem was using a Dell Latitude CSX, in a docking station.

    Hope this helps.

    :)

Were any windows open when it went into hibernation? There is a known problem with open ms-dos windows, for example. But it's possible others might cause it if you have sounds associated with them.

We're not using a docking station. I think I probably had Internet Explorer open, but not online. As for muting, I haven't tried that yet. Do you think I should just set the hybernation off? We very rarely leave the machine on when we're not using it.

My personal opinion is that unless you are using a notebook computer, there is little to be gained by most "power management" functions. -- and they are best left disabled or set to "never". You're not likely to notice any sudden increase in your electric bill :)
