System working OK with ME updates downloaded but frequent registry problems.

After FDISK, HD format and re-install I am unable to download updates from Microsoft (critical etc). The ME CD is an upgrade version used successfully many times previously.

The download progess bar shows no progress (but constituent elements scroll through) until I am thrown out with unsuccesful message (try again !).

I have disabled anti virus, firewall and explorer security (all of which caused no problems previously).

This is an ICS client of a home network on broadband - AMD Athlon Thunderbird clocked down to 900 Mhz / VIA chipset. ABIT KT7A Raid motherboard with Award Bios v6.13.2001. Raid controller disabled in BIOS and deleted in Windows safe mode. The only changes are a WINFAST Geforce2MX graphics card (previously installed OK on Intel Pentium 4 home ICS host) and new cooling system for CPU !

No error messages on ME install and am able to download directX8 and Google toolbar from other sites.

    Please help !
