I am trying to help a friend recover the use of his USB mouse on a Gateway desktop. He says he was on ebay bidding on an item while he was logging off his mouse froze and has not work ever since. He went and bought another mouse, still doesn't work. I went into Control Panel/Device Mgr and removed a conflict between the PS2 driver and USB Scroll Mouse. Deleted the program for the mouse and then rebooted the machine. It found the USB mouse and asked for the software and the mouse lit up. But it still will not work. Either the old mouse or the new one. What am I missing to restore this machine back to good working order.

You may need to reload the chipset drivers for the motherboard.

Its also possible that the USB on the motherboard has died? Or do other USB devices work? Does a PS2 mouse work?

I was able to boot up windows me to safe mode and the mouse works. I tried installing the mouse again. Tried to load new chipset driver for USB. Any other ideas?
