My mom updated her machine and when rebooting she gets an error

    Problem loading explorer.exe, reinstall windows

Then it says...windows can not find c:\windows\system\shlwap.dll

I read a little about this file, so I am little familiar of its importance, but how can I repair the machine? without having to wipe out the machine?

To do this, you will need to boot the computer with a ME startup diskette and select Minimum Boot. At the prompt will need to type the following pressing Enter after each line:

    C:
    cd\windows\command
    Scanreg /Fix

Do you have a floppy drive bootdisk for ME?

If not download the "Windows Me OEM" version from the link I ve put for you just below,,,save it to your desktop....insert a clean floppy in the drive....then click the new icon on your desktop and it will make the disk for you.
