Two problems: 1) When I right click Start/Explore the files in explore do not show up in the right side window, except for the 'Windows' folder and the 'Program Files' folder. All the folders on my hard drive are displayed in the 'folders' window. If I click on the Windows folder and then double click on a folder in the side window (that I know contains files) the only thing that shows up is a small box (~0.5 cm sq.) in the upper left corner of the window. If I click on any folder in the folders window other than the two mentioned above, then again no icons or file list are displayed. 2) the search function does not work. The window is displayed, but nothing happens when I type in a file name and click on 'Search'. Any help is greatly appreciated, I am at my wits end.

I have found a solution to my own problem of disappearing files. When I right click on the empty folder and select 'customize this folder', the files re-appear. I do not know how the files disappeared in the first place or why some files disappeared but others didn't, but it works. I still have not solved the search function problem.:)
