I've searched for audio music using the Windows Media Player 9 search, and when it comes back with the results, i click on a file that looks like a movie, and it immediately tells me either that , "Windows Media Player encountered an unknown error". or "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The file is either corrupt or the Player does not support the format you are trying to play". Does anyone know how to fix this, or does ANYONE know of another FREE program that would allow me to download music on my computer to listen for free?

I'm not sure on what you are trying to accomplish.

The error is due to that WMP cannot recognise the file. MP3, WAV or WMA are the most common ones. If it's not one of these, then it may not be a file that;s supported.

As for a download music for free, there is no legal program that will allow to download music for free. There are some sites that claim it but again most are not. Napster has a free trial for I think 14 days, that's it.
