windows media player can't open any video file

    yesterday i made a clean installation of windows 7 in my notebook
    but i'm not able to play any video file in wmp 12 . i can play the mp3s though
    it worked fine before i reinstalled the OS
    whenever i try to open a video file it says wmp has stopped working and gets closed
    pls guide me what to do
    thnx in advance...

    I've tried reinstalling the player, i've repaired it using Fix WMP , i've cleaned up the registries using ccleaner but no luck yet..

    is wmp enabled(delayed start) in services,

    i've already installed vlc but the sound quality u get is not up to that of wmp
    everything else is fine though
    but i still want my wmp to work..

    Windows does not have video codecs installed by default.
    Did you install a codec pack the last time,like klite or shark007
    or another?
    Web videos will probably need you to install flash player.

    yea i've installed klite
    it's not even playing wmv file which is in-built let alone avi..

    You'lle never fix it until thenext reinstall of the os and that is not a sure fix. I tried for weeks to fix mine.

    Try going to start/all programs/accesories.
    right click command prompt and click run as administrator.
    In the window type sfc /scannow and hit enter.
    There is a space between sfc and /scannow
    Let the system file checker run until it finishes.
    The window will close.
    Restart the computer and see if is working.
    Worth a shot.

    i've tried that but it didnt solve the purpose..
    it seems like it's crashed
