when i try to play a video in wmp, only the audio functions; there is no image. i tried downloading divx, and while it said the download was complete, no install wizard ever appeared. i clearly have no idea what i'm doing, nor what i'm talking about.

    anyone able to help? thanks.

Simplest solution is to not use WMP. Try VideoLan. You don't have the proper codecs installed for WMP to play the files. Installing those can be a risky business at best. I try to avoid it myself, hence I use VideoLan (VLC).
