windows media player freezes pc

    whenever I try to use media player the cursor freezes and the pc can only be turned off by pulling the plug...any thoughts?

    am using Windows 98...no viruses after scan

    What about Ad-aware? Have you emtied your browser's Cache? With IE open click Tools menu; Internet Options; Click the Delete Files button then the Delete Cookies button, each in turn.

    Have you gone to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and downloaded all the Critical Updates and service Packs?

    Very important, are you using Mcaffee Anti-virus?
