Hi there. I opened my WMP a few days ago and a box came up with something about sync and USB flash storage. I didn't think anything about it except some changes.
Firstly, if I now close the WMP, it keeps playing the MP3 song which it didn't do before. I now have to stop the track first and then exit the program.
Secondly, some of the songs are different. Male voices can sound distant and have an echo to them, like their singing down a tube some distance away. Another song the piano piece is so quiet, it's virtually inaudible. I tried tweaking the graphic equaliser but that didn't fix it.

I then made VLC the default program but that didn't fix it either.
I run an older computer with Vista and I wonder if a program update hasn't worked well with my sound card.

I went to system restore but it won't work, showing
"The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. (0x8007007B)".
Maybe my not keeping up with the latest is catching up with me.

Vista has no automatic updates. They stopped many years ago.
You probably need an older version of VLC to properly work with Vista, not sure.

    Hi Lunarlander.
I realise Vista hasn't updated for years but would that include WMP? This box appeared when I opened the the WMP like some update was done on it and now some mp3 music is so poor, it's not worth listening to. That includes VLC too.

Nothing on Vista is updated, period. The WMP behavior change has to have occurred via something else. Perhaps you installed a new software.

If it's also affecting VLC, then it's not a WMP issue. More likely you installed a third party software which has made changes to the system.

WMP does have a sync to USB option. It's used to sync the selected files to a USB drive. It should have no affect on WMP operation or file playback.

If WMP and VLC are being affected, I would suspect a third party app or audio configuration issue. You don't have your hardware listed, but many audio drivers have options/features to alter audio. Open your audio software and try finding a "restore to default" option.

Thanks for your help Oddba11. I've done a few things and fiddled around (I specialise in random actions) and it seems to have come right. Whether it was me I don't know (random does that). Hopefully it remains as it is. Thanks again for the help.
