    Hello all,
I am hoping you can help with a software problem I am experiencing at work. I have a DEll laptop w/ win2k installed with Windows media player 9.If I try to play a DVD I get an error message saying I need to download a decoder for this. Where can I find the decoder or is this something that is computer specific?

    Computer is a Dell C610
    PIII CPU 1200 MHZ
    DVD id is HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4243N

    Thank-you for your time. Nukls

If I understand this correctly, the decoder is kinda like the DVD operating system that would come packaged with Software? ie:Win xp and PowerDVD?

Thanx Mike, but once again, I am running win2K as an O/S. All the plug-ins are for WinXP.
I looked for an older version of plug-ins for the WMP9.0 but nothing was available!
    Thanx anyway!

try the appropriate codec pack here
if that doesn't work you may need to try a non ms one

if it doesn't work i'll give you a link for one that should do the trick

Hi T-Bone, Nope,no success. The download went smoothly but I still end up with the error msg. I will try to type the gist of it as I do not have screenshot installed,

"There is no Windows 2000 compatible decoder installed in this system. A DVD decoder device or decoder software is required to play movies. A DVD drive alone is not sufficient."

    Thanx again.

Thank-you T-Bone. Unfortunately I don't have access to the computer at the moment. I am travelling and will not be back to te office until sometime next week. I will try it then. Thanx again to you and everyone who helped.
