Open messenger, select tools the options. Click on the general tab on left hand side.

Uncheck - allow automatic sign in when connecting to internet
Uncheck - automatically run messenger when I log into windows

Click apply then ok

thanks muppy03...but i don`t see a general tab...i`m using xp...i saw something like this on the "preferences"....a.run windows messenger when windows start, and this was uncheck already
b.allow windows messenger to run in the background, which was checked.
so what`s your opinion there?...any help would be greatly appreciated. george

sorry george the 'general' tab is on windows live. i thought you meant that one. Try unchecking the 'run in background option' and of course make sure the run when windows start is unchecked. You can right click the lil man on your task bar and select exit.

See if that helps
