I wrote a c++ program designed to change the registry value of the "mouse sensitivity" depending whether I have USB mouse plugged in or not.
Problem is the registry value don't take effect until I reboot the machine.
So is there anyway to make the registry value take immediate effect without a hard or soft reset like in the mouse option GUI?

You might try disabling Registry Virtualization.

Look in Group Policy: Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options

And parameter: User Account Control: Virtualize file and registry write failures to per-user locations (at the bottom of the list).
