I just got my new computer and for a little while when I would shut down the computer would turn off automaticaly after a few seconds. I installed AOL and that stopped. It would go to the "Windows is shutting down" screen and stay there for about five Mins then turn off. I removed AOL, yes removed not uninstalled AOL. My mistake, I found out later, but anyway. What is causing it to take so long to shut down? I also reinstalled Win 98 to see if that would help fix the problem and it didnt.

    Welcome to TSG, peaceman.

Do you have Win98 FE or SE? There is a patch for SE, but I don't think it's going to help a problem caused by AOL.

Anyway to completely remove AOL, you should reinstall it, then uninstall it properly. Then retest things.
