Please instruct for the laptop.
Thanks!

First did you uninstall Avast and use the removal tool I provided in the other link in safe mode? If not start there.

Sure let me know when finished. Then perform the following steps:

Step 1:
1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste each the following commands 1 & 2 press enter after each one

1. sfc /scannow
Wait for this to finish before you continue

2. copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log > %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt
This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Step 2:
Download and Run the SURT tool
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20858
Upload the Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log

I have to take care of some things for a while but will get back to you later today.

This computer updated after the avast uninstall? It looks like there are still corruptions in the CheckSUR.log. Although It usually doesn’t prevent updates so if it worked no need to cleanup unless you prefer.

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good.
  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Upload the SFCFix.txt for review
Download and Run the SURT tool
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20858
Upload the Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log

Sorry to hear. I have not been feeling well the last few days . Please follow the in post 5 and I will check it out when I feel better.

I apologize my health has not been good so had to take a break from here for a while. Do you still need help?

#24 ·
I sure hope you're feeling better now.
Yes, I'm almost to the point of just forgetting it. All my computers are having the same issue again. Feels like a tactic to make people upgrade to Win 10. ;)
I'll be a bit busy the next few days, will try to follow-through when I get the chance.
Thank you!

Thank you, yes I am doing better. I understand, I am busy over the holidays as well. Let me know when you want to try to work on this and I will see what I can do. Merry Christmas
