To those of you who are still running Windows Vista, it has followed in the footsteps of Windows XP and will be going "extinct" today.

After today, there will be no further security updates from Microsoft for it.

Pretty much all modern browsers have dropped support for it.

It's time for you to move to Windows 7 or Windows 10.

One of my spare computers that I use for testing purposes dual boots with Windows XP Pro SP3 32-bit and Windows Vista Business SP2 64-bit.
Windows XP had 11 updates and Windows Vista had 10 updates for April 2017.
Both are running Mozilla Firefox 52 - support stops with the release of version 53.
Both are running Avast Free Antivirus 17.3 - no word yet when support stops.

    Hi Frank,

i desperately need the KB numbers of the latest Windows Vista SP2 64-bit updates, because the update searcing process went on forever and after 12 hours i finally gave up.

Could you please share the KB numbers of the April updates or tell me how to find the updates via the Microsoft Update Catalog site?

Thank you for taking the time to read this

Go to the Microsoft Update Catalog site.
Type in Windows Vista for x64-based Systems and then click "Search".
When the list of updates appear, click Last Updated.
Doing that will arrange the updates from newest to oldest.

These are the updates that I manually selected and downloaded and saved and installed:

    March.JPG April.JPG

    March 2017 - - - - - - - - - April 2017

Install the list in order from the smallest to the largest KB number.
Install the ENTIRE list before restarting the computer.
Make sure to stop the Windows Update service from running BEFORE installing each update.

I have a much easier time keeping Windows XP SP3 32-bit updated every month. (y)
Windows Vista SP2 64-bit has gotten to be a real bear.

Now that Windows Vista SP2 has reached it's end-of-life and will have no further updates and hotfixes, I'll be doing a clean install of it later today.

My main goal is to determine if Windows Update will work properly after installing IE9 and its cumulative update and the 04/11/2017 updates.

Will there be any reliable sources from where i could obtain unofficial updates and hotfixes?

It's my guess that someone will eventually create and release an "Unofficial SP3" for Windows Vista SP2.

An "Unofficial SP4" was eventually created for Windows XP SP3 several months after it went extinct.
It's what I use now after doing a clean install of Windows XP SP3.

A Windows Vista install and update guide is now posted in the "Windows Vista" section.
If you follow it carefully and correctly, you should be able to complete the entire process.
