ok so heres the story i turned off my comp one day and tryed to turn it back on like 3 days later and turns out that the monitor was dead so i put in a new monitor and now windows wont start up not even in safe mode nothing. i have xp pro. when i try to start it in safe mode these messages pop up.

multi(O)disk(O)diskr(O)partition(1)\windows\system32\ntoskin.exe

multi(O)disk(O)diskr(O)partition(1)\windows\system32\hal.dll

multi(O)disk(O)diskr(O)partition(1)\windows\system32\KD.dll

multi(O)disk(O)diskr(O)partition(1)\windows\system32\BootVid.dll

multi(O)disk(O)diskr(O)partition(1)\windows\system32\config\system

the O's have a dot in the middle of them in the message.

and then after a few mins it restarts and does the samething

Well, you can, if you have another PC you can add it as a slave drive and save those things.

You can try and check the HDD for errors:

If you have more then one HDD, unplug all but the one you're testing (probably not, right?)
Boot from cd and press R to get to recovery console.
Run CHKDSK /r and let it do it's business

I've never done this before that way tho, so I can't guarantee anything.:)

Here's some more info if you plan on doing this:

EDIT: BTW, the check can take hours, so don't give up too easily:)
