Every time I turn on my computer it keeps running for about 7 minutes and I it's very slow when I try to bring anything up. There are times that I can't get anything working until It stops running. I have installed ( My Faster pc) and it did not help. I also stopped some of my startup items and it didn't help either. I hope someone can help me get it working correctly because it's driving me nuts.

According to the specs it states windows xp 2000 and windows 6. As was stated above there is no windows xp 2000 nor is there a windows 6.There is windows xp, windows 2000, and windows 7.As far as my faster pc i havent heard anything good about it and it doesnt look like it did much of anything. What correct operating system is listed on the COA sticker on the computer? Once we know that im sure we can help you further.

Are you referring to your Gateway 831GM Media Center desktop or to a different computer?

---------------------------------------------------------

I strongly advise you to stay from any programs that claim to speed up a computer.

They don't hold up to their claims, but what they can do is damage the Windows operating system and break some of your programs.

You really need to replace the 2 - 256 MB DDR PC3200 modules that came in that desktop with 2 - 512 MB modules or 2 - 1 GB modules.

512 MB no longer is enough RAM to run Windows XP and its increasing memory-hungry programs and functions.

A 1 GB kit(512 MB x 2) is $45.99 and a 2 GB kit(1 GB x 2) is $79.99, plus shipping, at the CRUCIAL site.

Go here and click the green "Download latest version" link to download and save HiJackThis 2.0.4.

After it's been downloaded and saved, close all open windows first, then double-click the saved file to install it.

Allow it to install in its default location - C:\Program Files.

After it's been installed, start it and then click "Do a system scan and save a log file".

When the scan is finished in less than 30 seconds, a log file will appear.

Save that log file.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the entire log file here.

------------------------------------------------------

Start HiJackThis, but don't run a scan.

Click on the "Open The Misc Tools Section" button.

Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button.

Click on the "Save List" button.

Save the "uninstall_list.txt" file somewhere.

It'll then open in Notepad.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the entire file here.

Complete the instructions in post #7.

I'm going off-line shortly, so I'll check those 2 logs in the morning.
