    Hello all...
I recently wanted to install a program which told me i halfway through the installer that i had to have SP3 to run it.
So i googled sp3, went to the microsoft website and downloaded it.
My pc started to do the loop reboot thing thats assicoiated with amd processors..of course i didnt read up on this before i installed it.
So i researched how to fix this problem and came up with alot of different solutions.
I went to go get the xp disk. Inserted it in the drive and pressed F10 upon startup which launched the system recovery thing for compaq. I clicked recover or whatever and it started to do its thing, next thing i know its reinstalled xp...
So im thinking its wiped everything and installed a fresh version of XP which is not the case.
It still shows the programs in the program list but i cant use them and when i look at the C: drive capacity, there is still the same amount taken up and a little bit more, as i had previously before the crash.
Ive kinda worked out that its installed itself over the top of my older xp? but i dont know how to get this back
    Please help!

What's the model number of that Compaq Presario? If you don't know for sure, advise what the product number on the sticker is.

As far as I know, the reboot loop problem with AMD processors got resolved a long time ago.

    Thanks for the reply.
    Its the Compaq Presario SR1000.
Yes, im aware that microsoft have since released a new version of SP3 for AMD computers but me been me, didnt read up on the problems with SP3 before i installed it.
I must of installed the intel version.
Besides, the problem is near the end of my OP.
How do i solve my old instance of XP with 130gb of files been hidden underneath the fresh XP the recovery has installed?
Ive tried hidden partition finding programs but they dont find anything?

Here is the support site for the Compaq Presario SR1539UK desktop.

Here is the section for doing a system recovery.

Here is the AMD patch to install before upgrading to SP3.
