Windows XP desktop memory

    My friend has a dell dimension 4400 with only 512mb installed pc2100. it has two slots for memory so it can be upgraded to 2gb max , any ideas on best memory to use to upgrade it with?? can i go with pc2700 or do i have to stay with pc2100. Memory Speed MHz: 266MHz is installed. can i go to 333 without having to tweak bios, i dont know how to do that

    I would go here http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/
    get a scan and they will make suggestions. You do not have to buy their brand of memory, just follow the suggested type of RAM.
    Dell's bios cannot be changed, so you have to work with that.

    If it's currently using DDR PC2100(DDR266), it can also use DDR PC2700(DDR333).

    It does NOT support 2 GB of RAM. It supports 1 GB - 512 MB in each slot.
