I've tried to clear the 7023 Error, but no success. Run/CMD fails to show any help.

    I would appreciate any help.

Hi, below is the full MS Error message. I have found out that this Error is generated because I have the Windows XP Firewall disabled - this is because I'm using my Netgear Router Wirewall. MS has a 'Hotfix' for this problem but it costs £40 to get it??

    Windows Operating System
    Event ID: 7023
    Source: Service Control Manager
    Version: 5.0
    Component: System Event Log
    Symbolic Name: EVENT_SERVICE_EXIT_FAILED
Message: The %1 service terminated with the following error:
    %2

If you read this post, another person experienced the same error as you and their fix was:

    Go to Start>Run type cmd
    >
    > and then, in the command prompt, type:
    >
    > netsh winsock reset
    >
    > and hit Enter. Follow prompts and reboot.

Or try renabling Windows firewall thru the Services Manager temporarily, then go thru the Control Panel and turn the firewall off that way.

    Thanks for your reply,

I checked out the other persons Post, however he did not have the same problem as I have. He could not Activate his Windows Firewall. I have the Firewall disabled by choice.

Today I enabled the Windows Firewall but still had the Event Error 7023 - I am at a loss as to what Error 7023 is all about. I will contact MS UK tomorrow by telephone to see if I can get the Hotfix.

You can also try this, go to your Services and set them all to manual then reboot. After u reboot check to see if u get the error. If no error appears check your services again and set those that started to automatic.

Just to go back to your last reply. I have 99 items in my Services Folder, of which 45 are Automatic. Is it OK to change the 45 items to Auto?
