The screen resolution of Windows XP Home Edition on my laptop is set to 1280 X 800 but it still shows large icons and fonts than usually seen at this resolution. I could not figure out why? Is there anything that I should do to fix this?

    Welcome to the TSG forum.
You shouldn't have to do this but ...
    Control panel > Display > Appearance > Advanced ….
You can set the icon sizes here .. and other settings.
