When I start Windows XP, (starting this morning) it starts up as usually, but the desktop appears very quickly and I am unable to start/access anything  . The mouse icon does not appear, the keyboard doesn't work (even though the num lock light is on), I am unable to open anything including the window logo key, start up...etc.
I've tried to go into setup (f12), also ran diagnostics everything shows up "passing", but still unable to access anything on the computer.
I've tried to unplug the power cord and restart...still goes through the motion of starting (windows welcome screen, etc) then the desktop appears rather quickly and then it just seems to "freeze/lock up".
Thanks for any help you can give me!

when I start in safe mode, I receive a windows message that requires an "ok" or "cancel", I cannot respond since the mouse and keyboard do not respond.
I ran diagnostics (f10) and everything passes...when I press (f8), and begin to enter the safe mode (black screen) it says keyboard is not detected.
Thanks for any further help!!
