Hey, I recently tried to install Linux Fedora Core, which succeeded without any problems. How ever, I didn't feel like I was ready to move onto another OS such as Linux. So, I pulled out my Windows XP Home Edition Installation Disc. I insterted it into the CD-ROM Drive, and rebooted. Then the line came: Press any key to boot from disc... I pressed any key and then... nothing, it stays at a black screen for like hours or forever. This Windows XP Disc was purchased Legally.

The CD-ROM Drive: There is nothing wrong with it, I've checked the inside and all the pins and wires are in tightly. You can hear it spinning but then slow down then Spin again... over and over again, getting louder and louder. When I was using Linux, The CD-ROM drive was perfectly fine.

Also, I am using the Installation disc, NOT the Windows XP Upgrade.

Any solutions or paths to solutions are greatly appreciated! Thnx!

Examine the surface of the Windows CD. Scratches or dust can cause it to be unreadable.
Try cleaning it. Try opening it in another PC's CD-ROM drive.

Yes the CD is fine, there aren't any scratches or dust. ive tried it on my min PC and it loads up fine. I forgot to mention that it's after the screen that says: Hardware configutation something something.

How can I uninstall Fedora Core 5? That may be the issue.

    Thnx

If you have Fedora core 5 currently on the hard drive you are trying to install Windows on you never will get Windows to install. The formatting for the drive is foreign to the Windows or DOS format. You have to get the drive reformatted so it will accept the Windows disk info.

What you have to have is a Windows 98 startup disk with fdisk and format on it and use fdisk to remove the unknown partition. I have done it but can not list the exact steps to do it I would have to do it and then post it and unfortunately is a slight problem I do not have a linux formatted hard drive to do this with.
