Windows XP LAN Adapter Config Issue/ Cannot boot

I'm running a laptop with windows XP Home. After somebody messed with the network settings in an attempt to get a wireless network card installed, I am now unable to boot the computer normally. Sometimes I can run it by going to the safe mode screen and then choosing "run normally", then other times it just starts up fine on its own. Most of the time I get a message on the boot screen saying " PXE-E05: The LAN adapter's configuration is corrupted or has not been initialized. The Boot Agent cannot continue." Where do I start looking?? Help, its getting frustrating.

PXE is a pre-execution environment for booting from a LAN card, this would only be happening if the boot order got changed, or if the system is unable to read your hard drive. I suggest running the appropriate hard drive diagnostic utility for your drive and see if there are any issues
