First of all: My problem is with a laptop that is using Windows XP. (I can't wait to get a Mac...)

The other day I was using my computer and it froze. I suppose I was running too many programs and it ran out of RAM. Anyway, I had no choice but to hit the power button.

When I turned it back on, it asked what mode I wanted to boot it in. (Safe mode, safe mode with command prompt, safe mode with networking, with the lasts configurations that worked, or boot it normally.)

I chose to boot normally. The boot screen came up for a while, then a blinked a blue screen for a split second, then sent me back to the "What mode would you like to boot windows in" screen. I tried EVERY option, but none worked. They all do the same thing.

My questions are: What happened to my computer? Can I fix it without losing all my files? If the answer to the question is yes, then how? And if the answer to the last questions is no, then can I do a system restore somehow without my comp being started up?

    Thanks for any help. :)
