My pc downloaded an update last week and now it says I need to re-register my windows.
I thought no probs so i dug the info out and inputted it but it was rejected, I then remembered that my pc crashed shortly after buying it so I took it back to the shop (PC World) and they replaced the hard drive. My pc is nearly 4 years old now and was fixed about 3.5 years ago.

Can anyone help me with this please?

    Many thanks, Allan.

if you go into the windows folders, you will see a bunch of file names called something like $ntupdate954659 or some such gibberish.....sort them by date, and if you could, just write down the last 5 or so updates (those are the $nt files) that you have downloaded, and then we can check to see if they are causing the issue.

    thanks,

    v

no, googling them plus re-registering windows didn't show anything.

You may have to call windows on this one.

what was the last update installed? You can sort them by date.

It's entirely possible that the place that "fixed" your computer installed a pirated version of Windows. You can certainly try contacting Microsoft, but if the version of Windows on your computer is not legal, the only thing they'll offer you is a discount on a new Windows license.

Best bet would be to call MS and tell them what happened. If you have your product key you can get re-activated without a problem.
