Please can you help me. I am not great with computers.
My computer was fine until I downloaded teh new version of Internet Explorer (I think it might be 7??)

Since then my computer has been running SO slow.

I used to be able to open up internet explorer in a few seconds. Now it takes ages.

It's so infuriating, it's really trying my patience.

I have done a hijack this log. I was hoping you could look and would be able to see from that if something was clearly wrong.

    Many thanks.

    Welcome to TSG:
I am not qualified to give you any advise on the HJT log.
Specially trained techs are the folks here tasked with the HJT analysis.
But,one question. If you boot up in safe mode with networking,is it still slow ?

Close all open windows first, then start HiJackThis and run a scan, then save that new log, then submit the entire log here.

The log that submitted has the top portion missing which shows the Windows version and Internet Explorer version and HiJackThis version.

What's the brand name, model name, and model number of your computer?

How much RAM does it have?

Is America Online(AOL) your Internet Service Provider(ISP)?

Thanks for helping me. This is my Hickack this scan below:

No, I am not with AOL. My internet provider is now Virgin. I had AOL years ago.

My computer is HP Pavilion a220n

As I said everything was great until I downloaded the new Internet Explorer. Now, when I start the computer, it takes ages for the Internet explorer to kick in.

If I can I would just like the old Internet Explorer back.

Here is the support site for the HP Pavilion a220n desktop. You should add and save this site in your browser favorites/bookmarks list so you can readily refer to it when needed.

That desktop is several years old and came with 512 MB of RAM(256 MB in each slot). It supports a maximum of 1024 MB of RAM(512 MB in each slot). It uses 184-pin DDR PC2700 SDRAM modules. If you're still using the 512 MB that came in it, you should purchase 2 - 512 MB modules and max it out to 1024 MB.

    ----------------------------------------------------------

If you're no longer using America Online(AOL), go into the Add Or Remove Programs list and uninstall everything that's associated with AOL.

    ----------------------------------------------------------

    Go to Start - Run - MSCONFIG - OK - Startup(tab).

There should be an AVG entry in the list. Put a checkmark in that entry.

Remove the checkmark in all other entries.

After that's done, click Apply - OK - Restart.

When the small System Configuration Utility window appears, ignore its message.

Put a checkmark in the lower left of that window, then click OK to close it.
