    Hi!
I bought this new computer about 6 months ago and up till now no problems. I have Windows XP and now Internet usage is running ver very slow. It seems the green line on bottom takes for ever to go across. I know I only have dial up service (I know my son says i need cable but i don't want to spend any more money on Internet) but it has never run this slow before. What should i do? I am not very computer literate so please explain clearly.
    Thanks

Have you scanned for spyware? And you might want to reconsider you choice of internet service. For what you are probably paying for dialup (>$21.95) you can DSL service in most areas that would be 10 times faster, if not faster.

I am only paying $9.95 for dial up. I don't know how to scan for spyware.
A friend just explained how to do a HiJack This and told me to post my file to this thread. So here it is:

My thoughts also. And when you say running slow, it is the internet speed or the machine speed while offline?
From what I can tell, the log file looks okay. What model Dell do you have?

I do not know how to clean up temp files and defrag. I have Dell E310. I think it is Internet speed that is running slower than it use to run.

Okay, you were smart enough to get here, so use Google and find those terms (defrag and delete temp internet files) do not delete a folder named TEMP.
    Let's start there.

Open up Internet Explorer (I'm assuming this is the browser you use) go to Tools > Internet Options, Click on 'Delete Cookies', 'Delete Files' and 'Clear History'. Then go to My Computer > Local Disk C:, right-click > properties, click on 'Disk Cleanup'. Put a check next to Recycle Bin, Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files and hit OK. See if that helps.
