I am having problems updating my computer with the windows automatic updates. I have Windows XP 2002 service pack 1. When I download and install the windows sp2 updates, it restarts and windows wont load  It goes to a screen that asks safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, start windows with last known configuration that worked, or start windows normally. I have tried going into safe mode and doing a restore to before there was a problem, but nothing seems to work!! I can restore it to how the computer was before the update but it is still telling me I need it. I looked on the Microsoft website and it said to contact the manufacturer (gateway) to see if there was a needed update of BIOS but there is not. It also mentioned complications because it is a pentium 4 processor......I really don't know much about it. What can I do!? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

First of all, you should get the Win XP SP2 . Updating is always painful. It constantly ask me to update my PC. (Me using Vista ...upgrade requests are for Vista SP1)
