    Hi everyone..
My system is Xp Version 2002 , Service pack 2..
Today after almost 7 months, i gave the option of " automatically installing windows updates"..
    hence IE 7 got installed..
Later , i got a message sayi " XP Service Pack 3 " is to installed..
i clicked on Yes..and then came the message that " windows recommend BAcking up ur system before installation".

As i havent backed up my SyStem Yet , I cancElled the XP Service pACK 3 OPTION.:(

So is it necessary that I install the Service Pack 3 edition...Do i really need to BAck up my system as MIcrosoft tells ??!!

If you want the latest Microsoft updates and security patches you need to install SP3. And yes you should back your PC before you install it in case it does not work. I recommend you used an image back package, such as: http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/
