Error Message: PC needs repair. Either something is not connected, file is missing, or contains errors. Boot up disk unable to correct problems. I had several occasions over the past two months where the repair disk was successful in solving the problem of a dark screen or requesting a boot up disk.Vintage of the PC Desktop is 2011 Lenovo Think Centre, M90Z 2471, 3.2 Ghz, 8G RAM, 500G HD.

Due to the several occasions, one may suspect that your first option is to run a chkdsk /r on the system drive
Do that through the cmd prompt on the boot disc
    Repair you computer
    troubleshoot
    advanced options
    cmd prompt

It is an X prompt that is created in ram drive
so what is lettered C in the normal windows environment may NOT be C in the recovery cmd prompt

Therefore you need to establish which is the letter of the drive containing windows

    You can do with a
    bcdedit
    cmd

and then look for the letter allocated to the osdevice
in the boot loader - as here
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb...ry-environment-winre-to-troubleshoot-common-s

when you have established that change to that directory eg.
    D:
    and run the command
    chkdsk /r

OR run it from the X prompt as per the link changing the /f to /r

You need to watch the results in the cmd prompt so that you can establish if there are any bad sectors

You may also try the other cmds shown in the link
