I have Windows 2000 on my laptop. I travel, and currently connect to a customer's network.

This has now happened twice - I have a printer or two mapped to the customer network, and there are no problems sending jobs to the printer. Then, through no significant change that I can tell, the printers are not there on a boot, and when I try to re-map them using Add Printer, I get an error 'Out of Resources - Printer operation cannot continue due to lack of resources. The print subsystem is not available.'

When I go to Services, the Print Spooler is not started. I start it, and then try to Add Printer, and I get an error 'spools.exe - Application Error - the instruction at "0x780115f4" referenced memory at "oxoo828ooo." The memory could not be "written."

The first time this happened, I had to send my harddrive in to get re-imaged by my company's IT department. I'm trying to avoid this -- it is time-wasting and I think it does not address the issue, it just fixes the symptoms.

    Help?!?!?

    Thanks,

    Joe

    Brooks!

    That did it!

I have agonized over this issue for months - I even had the customer lend me an old desktop strictly for printing.

I went to the Microsoft link you gave, went to the part 'Error Messages Typically Caused by Local Port Monitor Problems ', followed the steps to delete some registry settings (i found an old Bitware Fax setting that I think did trash it before), and then I went into settings and set spooler.exe to start automatically and it worked!

My old printer mappings were there.

    Thanks again,

    Joe Johnson
